JOHN HARKER VESSELS IN LATER LIFE

VIC 99

VIC 99 was completed at the Knottingley yard of John Harker in July 1945. She was one of three VIC's from this yard, the others being VIC 81 and VIC 82.

With a gross tonnage of 147 and a length of 80.5 feet she was one of the 'Improved VIC' types. She remained in Admiralty Service until sold for breaking in 1968, although fortunately she was rescued and converted for use as a restaurant at Stourport on the River Severn.

During a fireman's strike in November 1977, she was set alight by an arsonist and badly damaged. Some interior restoration was completed after the fire, a fact that was mentioned when she was put up for sale by the Admiralty Marshal in 1984.

I would like to extend my warmest thanks to George Robinson for the accompanying notes about VIC 99 and also to Mike Ridgard for granting me permission to publish his photographs.
